Project Pajero on Stockton beach 3We all know that buying a new car can be exciting, but we often keep these cars for a long time. Do they just stay a means of transport or become something more. Rob Fraser tells us about his own car

In 2002 we needed a new car, something for the family. After much searching we bought a Pajero Exceed. It would be good to drive the kids and their friends around we thought and do a bit of touring.

Well fast forward to 2019 and I still have that same Pajero. My kids grew up with the Pajero and learnt to drive that car on the farm when they were 9 and 11. There was so many times when it was full of their basketball teams, after school runs, taking a bunch of friends to parties and so many holidays.

My kids and the Pajero have experienced together travelling to Cape York, up the Birdsville Track, Oodnadatta, Strzelecki, Gibb Rover Rd, Tanami Desert, climbed Big Red,. We’ve explored the Undarra Lava Tubes, travelled the Savanah Way, visited Coober Pedy, Ayers Rock and Alice Springs and taken numerous trips to Noosa.

I was reminded of all this when I took the now ageing Pajero from Sydney to Nelson Bay where I Live and went for a sunrise drive on the beach.

Cars often become more than just transport, they become part of the family.
