The new Ford Fiesta ST is Ford’s most powerful and dynamic small production performance car ever, employing a precision-tuned and driver-focused powertrain and chassis and is available from September with an MLP of $25,990*.
Ford Australia’s General Marketing Manager, David Katic said “The Fiesta ST is your all-in hot-hatch with outstanding driving dynamics, EcoBoost power and a full suite of smart technology features buyers don’t expect in this segment,”
“We feel the aggressive starting price and outstanding fuel economy will give customers another reason to consider the Fiesta ST.
“Since the global Fiesta ST program was announced, Ford Australia received a huge amount of interest from customers and we are very happy to say, the wait is almost over for Australian performance enthusiasts,” Katic said.
The Fiesta ST is Sourced from Ford’s Niehl Assembly Plant, near Cologne, Germany.
EcoBoost engine technology in Fiesta ST
Everyday practicality is underlined by EcoBoost fuel efficiency of 6.2 l/100km† and 145g/km CO2† – a 20 per cent emissions reduction compared with the previous European-spec Fiesta ST, though it produces almost 20 per cent more power than the first-generation model’s 2.0-litre engine.
The EcoBoost engine’s low weight contributes towards improved handling; and brings technologies including turbocharging, high-pressure direct fuel-injection and Twin-independent Variable Cam Timing to Fiesta ST to deliver 134 kW and 240 Nm of torque.
Smart ST Features
To complement the advanced EcoBoost engine, the new Fiesta ST comes standard with a multitude of high-tech features including Ford SYNC™, integrated with an eight-speaker Sony Audio System and 4.2” colour TFT display.
“As with all SYNC™-equipped Ford vehicles, the new Fiesta ST features Bluetooth®‡ hands free with voice control, allowing customers to stay connected whilst keeping their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road,” Katic said.
Other standard connectivity features include USB/iPod§ port and steering wheel mounted audio controls.
“Like its Focus ST sibling, the Fiesta ST is available as one, highly specified model and offers a compelling value proposition for our customers”.
Smart technology convenience features include Keyless entry and start with Ford Smart Key and Ford Power Start, auto diming rear-view mirror, auto wipers and auto projector headlights with LED day-time running lights.
Rear parking sensors, single-zone climate control air, cruise control and ambient interior lighting round off the convenience features to ensure Fiesta ST offers comfort as well as style.
Emergency Assistance now on Fiesta ST
With the addition of the segment-first Emergency Assistance technology, the Fiesta ST brings some remarkable new features and capability to the small car market.
“The Fiesta ST joins Focus ST and the Ford Kuga to offer customers Emergency Assistance as standard,” Katic said. “This technology has already proven a life-saver in North America. It provides our Fiesta ST customers with peace of mind.”
The Ford SYNC™-based Emergency Assistance system uses the driver’s own mobile phone and runs in the background once the phone is properly paired with SYNC™.
Upon detecting airbag deployment or activation of the emergency fuel shut-off within the car, Emergency Assistance uses the on-board GPS locator and Bluetooth®‡-paired device to institute an emergency call and can provide GPS co-ordinates to the emergency services.
Quality ST Design
Ford has established a distinctive design language associated with the Sport Technologies brand and the Fiesta ST continues the tradition with a large trapezoidal grille featuring a unique honeycomb construction and dramatic rear diffuser element. The Fiesta ST’s headlight design incorporates LED day-time running light technology and tinted bezels. New paint options include Molten Orange (Fiesta ST specific), Race Red and Performance Blue.
The cabin features carbon fibre dashboard inserts, alloy-metal pedals and gearshifter, and an ST steering wheel, ST scuff plates and carpet mats to create a premium sports feel for occupants.
A key feature of Fiesta ST’s cabin are the performance Recaro cloth sports seats with 4-way manual adjustment.
“The Recaro seats in the Fiesta ST provide excellent shoulder and torso support for a sports-focused seating position to help keep occupants feeling secure during enthusiastic driving,” Katic said.
Distinctive sound
The engine also emits a distinctive soundtrack, engineered to be appreciated regardless of whether heard from inside or outside the car. For those in the car, a new sound symposer relays the engine sound directly from the intake into the cabin.
The exhaust system, with twin chrome tipped tailpipes, has also been tuned to deliver the right sound at the right time, refined at lower revs and a purposeful growl as the revs rise.
Smart safety features on Fiesta ST
Like its Fiesta relatives, Fiesta ST uses high strength and ultra-high strength steels in the body structure to ensure rigidity and strength.
ABS with BA and DSC systems are further augmented with enhanced Torque Vectoring Control (e-TVC) to provide customers with advanced assistance when they need it.
Driver and passenger front airbargs, left and right hand side curtain/thorax airbags and drivers knee airbag are standard across the new Fiesta range.
