Maserati Levante has been an outstanding success with over 95% of buyers being new to the brand. In the absence of the GTS, THE Levante S Gran Sport fill the performance mantle for the SUV. Rob Fraser recently spent a week in one.

Prestige SUV’s are meant to transport a family in luxury and comfort. They aren’t about outright acceleration nor top speed. More about point to point transport. Here the Maserati is amongst the best in the segment.

It certainly isn’t the fastest in the 0-100 km/h times that mantle is claimed by others, but it displays a level of sophisticated ride and handling that belies its bulk. The other thing that is apparent is that the Levante has some character. Many vehicles in this segment will perform but are soulless.

The Maserati Levante is a grand tourer in the traditional sense. It will fit 4 in comfort, 5 at a pinch, will accommodate luggage for them as well, and allow you to travel long distances without fuss.

At around $190,000 for the Levante S GranSport, plus the usual on road costs, it’s certainly not cheap, yet when you buy a Maserati you are buying an experience that engages all the senses.
