Peugeot 5008 GT – This week I have been driving the Peugeot 5008GT SUV. It’s an interesting car for a number of reasons.
First up is that while it looks stylish and chic, it’s actually quite large with a wheelbase longer than a Hyundai Santa Fe or Kia Sorento. This means that internal room for the front and middle row passengers is almost best in class.
Second up is that it’s powered by a turbo 1.6L turbo petrol engine that produces 133Kw/250Nm. Not particularly huge figures, but it has zippy performance and excellent ride and handling dynamics.

Third, the 5008 GT is packed with little comfort and luxury features that cost thousands extra on other premium European brands.
Fourth is the flexibility of the seating arrangement. It’s a 5 plus two seat configuration and it works well. The middle three seats are individual and can be folded as such. Rear seats fold flat and can be removed for a picnic if desired.
Fifth one is for drivers with ageing backs. The seat is especially comfortable with a 5 mode massage function that helps to ensure you arrive where you’re going relaxed.
Priced from $65,657 plus the usual costs the 5008 GT provides something just a little different to the usual family SUVs.

Some Peugeot 5008 GT General Thoughts
- This is an unusual SUV in that its purely a front wheel drive vehicle,
- Its stylish but the long wheelbase and short overhangs gives it a somewhat sausage dog look. Its appealing and very different
- The front two seat rows have ample room for passengers.
- The middle row of seats are individualized which is good but they can be a little slim for some passengers.
- Rear seats are for occasional two people but comfortable.
- The boot room is more than adequate and the flexibility of the seat folding is unique
- So is the fact that the rear two seats can be easily removed
- I love the whole driver instrument binnacle design
- The central screen is a little small these days
- The small turbo engine is willing but can labour if there was five on board with luggage
- However its astonishingly economical. Better that a hybrid
- I simply don’t understand the specification level difference between the diesel and petrol GT versions. I’m not the only one.
- Ride, handling and general dynamics are definitely European and encourage driver engagement.
