Toyota Tundra Limited – Toyota joins the new wave of American Pickup trucks being sold in Australia. Toyota has launched its new full-size Tundra Limited pick-up priced from $155,9901 following an extensive, Toyota-first, local re-engineering and development program to convert the vehicle from left-hand drive to right-hand drive.
Tundra Limited Overview
Toyota partnered with Walkinshaw Automotive Group for the six-year planning and development program.
The new Tundra offers outstanding performance, comfort and a big, bold on-road presence, all built to Toyota’s quality, durability and reliability standards.
Toyota Australia Vice President Sales, Marketing and Franchise Operations Sean Hanley said the extensive development work, plus the ongoing 12-month Tundra Insider customer evaluation program, ensured the Tundra more than met the demands of Australian customers and our unique conditions.
“Toyota has never before worked with a third party to re-engineer a vehicle for right-hand drive so we needed to ensure that it met our high quality standards, and the result is something that all parties can be proud of,” Mr Hanley said.
“Its bold stylish design, the high level of performance from its twin-turbo V6 i-FORCE MAX powertrain, and spacious comfortable interior will appeal to a variety of customers, whether as a work vehicle for carrying tools and workers around town, or getting out onto the open road and touring the country with a caravan or boat in tow,” he said.
Tundra Exterior details
At 5955mm long, 2040mm wide and 1985mm tall sitting on a 3700mm wheelbase, the Tundra cuts an imposing figure on the road, showcasing a unique exterior design that Toyota North America’s Calty Design Research studios in California and Michigan crafted.
The expansive grille, framed by a chrome octagonal bezel and flanked by bold T-shaped LED headlight clusters featuring automatic high beam technology, is located at the front of the vehicle.
Below the front grille is an active front spoiler that automatically deploys and retracts based on driving conditions, to improve aerodynamics, and increase ground clearance in off-road terrain.
In side profile, flared wheel arches house stylish black and chrome 20-inch alloy wheels while the standard crushed tube side steps help enable easy access to the wide opening front and rear doors.
The rear styling is as bold as the front with the broad tailgate flanked by big vertical rear LED light clusters and a rear bumper with an integrated step providing easy access to the large rear cargo tub that offers a maximum payload of 758kg.

Tundra Engine and drivetrain details
Under the bonnet, the Tundra’s 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 i-FORCE MAX powertrain delivers the most power and torque ever offered by a Toyota vehicle in its Australian lineup, providing a high level of performance and abundant pulling power.
The parallel hybrid powertrain teams the 290kW/649Nm twin-turbo V6 with a 36kW/250Nm motor generator for a prodigious total combined output of 326kW/790Nm.
The powertrain drives through a 10-speed automatic transmission, with power able to be delivered to all four wheels via a part-time selectable four-wheel drive system with a dual-range transfer case.
In two-wheel drive mode (2H), drive torque is delivered to the rear wheels, while switching to high range 4WD (4H) via the sliding switch on the centre console, engages the front wheels by locking the automatic disconnecting differential (ADD) to provide extra traction in slippery conditions.
For challenging conditions or situations where you need extra traction to get out of trouble, the Tundra is equipped with low-range 4WD (4L), providing maximum torque and improved traction to tackle tough terrain.
TNGA-F ladder-frame platform
Complementing the strength of the powertrain, the Tundra sits on the TNGA-F ladder-frame platform that is shared with the LandCruiser 300 Series and all-new LandCruiser Prado.
The frame’s wheelbase has been lengthened by 850mm compared to the LandCruiser 300 Series while the front and rear track of 1737mm is up to 70mm wider, to provide a strong stable platform that helps contribute to the Tundra’s maximum braked towing capacity of 4500kg4.
The Tundra suspension has been designed and tuned to provide the optimum balance of superb ride comfort and dynamic handling – both on and off road.
At the front is a double wishbone arrangement with the rear suspension comprising a four-link rigid axle configuration with dual-rate coil springs providing excellent ride comfort under a variety of load conditions.
Re-engineering the Tundra for right-hand drive,
In re-engineering the Tundra for right-hand drive, Toyota was able to use many original components from the LandCruiser 300 Series including the electric power steering system that offers superb control and steering feel at all speeds.
Stopping power comes courtesy of large, 354mm ventilated discs with 4-piston calipers on the front and 335mm ventilated discs with single-piston calipers on the rear, and a full complement of safety technologies including ABS, vehicle stability control, hill-start assist and trailer sway control.
Drivers are offered three modes through the drive mode select system – Eco, Normal and Sport – that automatically adjusts transmission, throttle, steering and air conditioning parameters, depending on driver preferences and road conditions.
Tundra Towing capability
With its standard integrated tow hitch, wiring harness, 3500kg rated tow ball and tongue, the Tundra also incorporates several features to enable customers to make the most of its 4500kg braked towing capacity4. A 4500kg towing kit is available.
These include a trailer brake controller, two tow modes for varying loads and a trailer back up guide that can autonomously control steering to assist when reversing.
Toyota Safety Sense
A comprehensive suite of Toyota Safety Sense5 active safety features ensures maximum possible safety for occupants, along with eight SRS airbags.
Toyota Safety Sense features include the autonomous emergency braking pre-collision safety system that can detect pedestrians and oncoming vehicles day and night and cyclists during the day, emergency steering assist, active cruise control, lane trace assist and lane departure alert, and automatic high beam.
In addition to these features, the Tundra also incorporates blind-spot monitor with cross traffic alert, parking support brake and front and rear parking sensors.
To provide a comprehensive view of the vehicle surroundings, it also features a panoramic view monitor and rear-view camera with guide lines that are displayed on the large 14-inch touchscreen, and a digital rear view mirror.
Tundra Interior details
Inside, the Tundra provides a spacious yet cosseting environment for up to five occupants, with the right-hand-drive conversion process providing seamless fit and finish, along with high levels of technology and comfort features.
For the driver, a large 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster provides easy-to-read essential information in a broad range of customisable layouts that can include vehicle, audio, navigation and phone information, surrounding a central analogue-style tachometer and digital speedometer.
The steering wheel is adjustable for both rake and reach to enable the optimum position for a range of driver sizes, and offers steering wheel controls for audio, phone, multimedia and vehicle settings and driver assistance technologies.
Central touch screen

Tundra Limited – Locally Developed In Partnership With Walkinshaw Automotive Group To Toyota Factory Standards
Toyota’s full-size Tundra pick-up is the culmination of a remarkable program that began more than six years ago.
The sheer scope and complexity of the program, including extensive customer evaluation, has resulted in Toyota Australia and the Walkinshaw Automotive Group establishing a new local benchmark for re-engineering a vehicle from LHD to RHD.
In a world first for Toyota, the Tundra program involves taking a LHD vehicle built outside Japan, exporting it to a third country, re-engineering it to RHD with a local partner, undertaking final assembly in a non-Toyota factory and selling it as a Toyota.
Global approval for the RHD Tundra program was contingent on delivering “no compromise” in terms of performance, dynamics and QDR – just as if the vehicle was being fully produced in the Toyota ecosystem.
Tundra Limited Program history
In 2018, Toyota Australia set about developing a solid business case to demonstrate to the parent company in Japan that there was significant local demand for a RHD Tundra.
Toyota engineers from global head office visited Australia that year for a “genchi genbutsu” investigation – a Japanese phrase that means “go and see for yourself”. An integral part of the Toyota Production System, this is a best-practice method for confirming facts and informing decisions.
The investigation group, including members of Toyota Australia’s vehicle development and evaluation team. Travelled widely to meet and interview as many people as possible who had purchased converted full-size pick-ups.
Toyota Australia General Manager Rod Ferguson said studying how owners used these vehicles enabled the team to reach a deeper understanding of customer requirements and gain insights that helped bring RHD Tundra to reality faster and more effectively.
“The group talked to dozens of passionate owners about their long-distance highway towing. Everything from horse floats to construction hardware, farming equipment, large boats and even race cars,” Mr Ferguson said.
“Customers spoke about their absolute priority for towing capacity above 3.5 tonnes. A vehicle with a powerful engine that’s ready to tow heavy trailers straight from the showroom floor. They also told us about their requirements for space, comfort and driving range.”
The tour coincided with U.S. development of the third-generation Tundra. Which adopted the TNGA-F platform, now shared with the LandCruiser 300 Series and Lexus LX.
Support in Japan and the United States for the Australian business case led to engineering discussions on what a RHD Tundra would look like.
Tundra Limited Core qualities
The core vehicle features high-performance towing from its i-FORCE MAX powertrain, a highly rigid chassis and four-link rear suspension for ride comfort, straight-line stability and dynamic handling. It is the first Toyota in Australia with a factory-fitted integrated towing brake controller.
Changes to the vehicle went beyond what is usually understood by the word “conversion”. New and modified components for the RHD Tundra include the steering rack, brake pedal, instrument panel, firewall, headlights, cabling and harnesses. Many of the new run-stop-turn components are original equipment parts from other Toyota 4WD vehicles.
The program, including the partnership with the Walkinshaw Automotive Group, was announced publicly in August 2022, enabling prototype testing to begin on public roads.
Durability testing
“Our development followed the typical Toyota process and milestones for key run-stop-turn items and vehicle evaluation.
“It included durability testing on shaker rigs, crash testing to ensure no compromise to safety and ADR testing to match local regulations.
“When the project was under wraps, we were restricted to using our proving ground in Victoria where significant durability testing took place.
“Then, after announcing the program, we were able to do real-world testing across the country – everywhere from Altona to Darwin, often towing a 4.5-tonne trailer.”
Toyota Australia’s development and evaluation team is recognised as a global centre of excellence in the development and testing of Toyota’s heavy SUVs and commercial vehicles – not just for Australia, but for the world.
“This confidence in our local capability – including our heavy involvement in the 300 Series program – was an essential part of the approval process,” Mr Ferguson said.
“Our production quality procedures included several visits to the Texas plant by our local engineers. The sign-off process also required local inspections by the U.S. chief engineer and senior executives from Toyota Motor Corporation’s quality division.”
Production commences for Tundra Limited
Successful completion of manufacturing and quality milestones led to the official start of volume production in October 2023. Even so, global approval for the RHD Tundra required a further major step.
“Uniquely for a re-engineering program, we implemented a trial with more than 250 customers who evaluated Tundra under real-world usage conditions.
“Known as the Tundra Insider Program, it was a vital checkpoint in Toyota’s global approval process and enabled us to make some relatively minor refinements ahead of retail launch.
“It was all about ensuring this vehicle truly matches the expectations of our customers in performance, dynamics and quality.”
The Tundra is produced by Walkinshaw Automotive Group at its facility in Melbourne where it currently produces five vehicles per day.

Tough Exterior Design Tundra Limited
The new Tundra introduces an exterior design that is unique among Toyota’s Australian stable, featuring bold and sophisticated styling that reflects the Tundra’s American roots.
Its “Technical Muscle” design language was created by the Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) Calty Design Research team based in Newport Beach, California and Ann Arbor, Michigan, and provides a striking, distinctive visage.
Measuring 5955mm long, 2040mm wide and 1985mm tall,1 the Tundra is the longest and widest light commercial vehicle offered by Toyota and strikes an impressive, solid and stable pose on the road.
At the front, the Tundra Limited muscular grille is surrounded by an octagon-shaped silver bezel which cascades down to the bottom of the front bumper, and is fitted with dark horizontal slats that allow for ample airflow to be fed into the i-FORCE MAX engine and intercooler radiators.
An embossed ‘TUNDRA’ logo sits atop the darkened lower bumper centre, which is turned upwards at the bottom to improve approach angle.
Lighting
The stylish Tundra headlights sit between the grille and front wheelarches, with a powerful T-shaped LED light signature that splits the low/high beam modules, side marker lamp and parking and turn signals.
Automatic high beam helps prevent dazzling other road users when driving at night, while manual headlight leveling lets drivers adjust the angle of the headlights in 11 different settings when carrying or towing a heavy load.
The sculpted bonnet is crowned with chrome i-FORCE MAX badges, matching the chrome door handles, TUNDRA and LIMITED badging running along the side of the vehicle.
Wheels and tyres
Stylish 20-inch alloy wheels are finished in contrast black and chrome metal and wrapped with 265/60 R20 tyres, with an 18-inch space-saver spare tyre mounted underneath the tub.
Between the front and rear flared wheelarches, tough metal sidesteps provide easy access to the Tundra’s cabin, and are finished in a black colour to integrate neatly into the vehicle’s side profile.
The large auto-folding, heated exterior mirrors provide superb rear visibility and feature an automatic reverse tilting function to aid the line of sight when reverse parking.
At the rear of the vehicle, vertically oriented LED tail-lights add to the muscular look of the Tundra, and incorporate a tailgate release switch into the left combination lamp for easy drop-down access.
Tundra Limited Tub
The Tundra’s angular and muscular design is bolstered by a small tailgate spoiler, while the front grille features the embossed ‘TUNDRA’ logo repeated across the tailgate.
Inside the fully-lined tub, the Tundra provides an expansive load area of approximately 2.7 square metres, with a maximum payload of 758kg.1
A tub cargo management system helps keep items secure with side and back rails and moveable tie-down points while the top edges of the load bed features a protective cover to reduce damage when loading.
For easy towing, the Tundra comes standard with a tow hitch built into the strong TNGA-F frame as well as a 12-pin wiring connector, and 3500kg rated towball and tongue.
Aerodynamics
While the styling of the Tundra offers a distinctive aesthetic, it has also been designed with aerodynamics in mind to help improve dynamic efficiency and reduce fuel consumption.
Sitting below the front bumper, the Tundra features an active front spoiler which deploys automatically when the vehicle is travelling at 60km/h or more.
If the vehicle slows to 40km/h or less, the spoiler automatically retracts under the vehicle’s body. It will also retract when 4WD mode is selected to reduce the potential for damage and ensure the Tundra’s 216mm ground clearance.
Other aerodynamic enhancements include a grille shutter, tailgate lip, deck top aero fin and a number of tapered body parts which all help reduce drag and improve fuel consumption.
Tundra Limited on a diet
The Tundra also incorporates a range of measures in its construction to help reduce weight.
Lightweight panels and structures throughout the body include stamped aluminium front doors and bonnet, and the extensive use of aluminium in the cargo area for the rear quarter panels and cross members.
Shorter spot pitch welding throughout the cabin shell structure has also enabled Toyota to reduce the panel thickness, and therefore weight, in certain areas while maintaining body strength and rigidity.
The Tundra’s body also features several measures designed reduce noise, vibration and harshness to ensure excellent occupant comfort, particularly on long drives.
These include acoustic laminate for the windscreen, a 3.5mm thick glass rear window, gap filler foam throughout the body, and silencers placed on the underbody and behind the dashboard.

Tundra Limited Interior cabin details
The all-new Tundra offers drivers and passengers a high level of occupant comfort thanks to its vast interior dimensions, premium appointments and advanced technology.
Reflecting the bold exterior, the interior combines strong lines, an expansive vertically oriented dash with neatly integrated instrument cluster and multimedia displays, synthetic leather upholstery, and extensive storage options to create a cabin that is highly functional and comfortable with a premium ambience.
Up to five passengers are able to travel in sumptuous comfort, supported by dual-zone climate control, smart entry and start, a premium audio system, and an expansive touchscreen multimedia system.
12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
All essential controls for the driver are laid out for intuitive use while a large 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster provides clear, easily read information that can be customised to suit driver preferences.
The large display features an analogue-style central tachometer and digital speedometer display, with several display options on either side relating to fuel economy, navigation, audio, phone, warnings, and vehicle information.
The latter includes towing gauges, tyre pressure information, hybrid powertrain outputs, oil and fluid temperatures and vehicle pitch and roll angles.
Each time the vehicle is turned on, owners are met with one of five animations showing a different background.
Drivers can configure the instrument cluster display, along with other functions, via the buttons on the Tundra’s dimpled, leather-accented four-spoke steering wheel.
The designers grouped the steering wheel controls into logical clusters. Dedicating a range of buttons on the left side to display and infotainment functions, catering the right side for driver assist technology. And allocating the lower section for audio and voice assistant functions.
The Tundra’s steering wheel offers 40mm of tilt and 60mm of telescopic adjustment to provide an ideal driving position for owners.
Multimedia connectivity
Integrated into the centre of the dash is an expansive 14.0-inch touchscreen display for the latest generation multimedia system that offers an extensive array of entertainment and information options.
The system features full Bluetooth®1 connectivity, AM/FM radio2, and is compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay®3 and wired Android Auto™4.
The screen or the steering wheel contains controls for all multimedia functions, except for a large volume dial on the centre console designed for easy operation.
The standard fitment of a 12-speaker JBL®5 premium audio system ensures excellent audio playback. The Tundra’s dual-zone automatic climate control system features controls that sit directly below the large multimedia touchscreen and integrates them neatly into a tactile control panel.
The highly efficient climate control system features an S-Flow function which can selectively deactivate airflow to the rear seat vents, based on occupancy. If maximum heating or cooling is required or extreme sun heat is entering the cabin, the rear air conditioning vents will continue to operate even without rear passengers.
Seating
The Tundra’s spacious and comfortable interior provides supportive and supple seats. They have have been engineered to provide ample comfort and adjustability for all occupants.
Lightweight front seat frames and a unique foam formulation offer high levels of safety and superb comfort.
With both front seats featuring
- eight-way power adjustment,
- two-way power lumbar support,
- and three-stage seat heating and ventilation.
The seats offer extensive adjustment to suit a range of body sizes. With 260mm forward/aft slide, 60mm of adjustment for the cushion height. And 19 degrees for the backrest recline and 30.5mm for the seat base cushion tilt.
Those sitting in the second row of the Tundra are treated to ample head, leg and shoulder room. With a 60:40 split-folding rear seatback, outboard ISOFIX child restraint points, and a stowable centre armrest with twin cupholders.
Cargo and Storage
To create even greater load-carrying space, customers can either fold the rear seat backs forwards or the seat cushions upright. The latter of which creates 717 litres of interior cargo space. Folding the seats forward reveals storage space for items such as the jack and tool bag
The vast size of the Tundra’s interior ensures plentiful storage options. With a wide centre console up front offering two central top-mounted trays with padded leather outer sections for occupants to rest their elbows.
Two generous cupholders are positioned in front of the centre console storage unit next to the drive mode select switch. With a further two available at the end of the centre console storage unit for rear passengers.
At the front of the centre console, a large storage bin is paired with an angled, upright wireless smartphone charger6 . Which allows easy access for customers and a wide charging area. Two USB-C ports and a 12V outlet in the instrument panel provide further charging options for front occupants.
Two bottle holders are available in each front and rear door, along with an upper storage pocket positioned underneath the door armrest.
Charging options for rear passengers include one USB-C and one USB-A port in the rear of the centre console. With a parcel shelf sitting in between the charging ports and rear-facing cupholders.

Tundra Limited 3.5-L Twin Turbo V6
The i-FORCE MAX teams a 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 with a parallel hybrid system – also a first for Toyota in Australia.
That comprises
- a single electric motor generator,
- DC/DC converter, and
- nickel-metal hydride battery to provide superb driveability and performance.
The total combined i-FORCE MAX powertrain output of 326kW/790Nm makes it the most powerful and torque-rich powertrain ever offered by Toyota in Australia.
The Tundra i-FORCE MAX parallel hybrid arrangement places an electric motor generator between the engine and the 10-speed torque converter automatic transmission. And works seamlessly according to driver demands and road conditions.
The hybrid system facilitates engine start-up, electric motor assistance, a stop/start system, and energy regeneration. It delivers the high responsiveness, linear acceleration feel, fuel economy and pulling power expected of the Tundra.
A single high-output electric motor generator produces a total of 36kW/250Nm. And is connected to a clutch capable of switching between engine or motor generator power or a combination of both.
Under strong acceleration, the motor generator and engine work together to provide higher peak system outputs. While under braking, energy is recuperated and fed into the 1.87kWh nickel-metal hydride battery. This is packaged underneath the rear seat and cooled by filtered air vents.
Power and Torque
The V35A-FTS twin-turbo petrol V6 engine provides powerful low-end performance and high peak output. On its own produces 290kW of power at 5200rpm. Along with a substantial 649Nm of torque across a wide rev band of 2400-3600rpm.
The engine has been designed to maximise reliability, low weight, strength, efficiency and overall output with diecast aluminium used for the cylinder blocks.
The impressive torque is developed with the help of a long stroke, dual variable valve timing and D-4ST fuel injection.
The Tundra’s high-pressure fuel injection system optimises the injection angle and fuel spray pattern of the six-hole direct injectors and eight-hole long-nozzle port injector to deliver highly efficient combustion.
The D-4ST system allows for variable direct and port injection and turbocharger pressure control based on engine load and speed to achieve the best possible mix of output and efficiency.
Twin Turbochargers
The twin turbocharger – one for each bank of cylinders. Has been developed with the compressor housing and impeller shape designed to offer plentiful low-rpm torque and high overall output.
A dual air intake system reduces air pressure loss. Which improves performance and output of the turbochargers along with engine exhaust ports integrated into the cylinder heads and connected to the turbochargers.
Electric wastegate actuators precisely control the wastegate valves. Which are kept open at low loads and engine start-up, and are controlled according to accelerator pedal response to maximise power delivery.
Excellent cooling performance is also crucial for optimal performance in Australia. Which the Tundra provides with a suite of cooling aids starting with the electrically controlled fan that can variably adjust cooling strength.
Under low and medium load and when starting the engine, the system disables the fan to reduce noise and help the engine warm up. While under high loads or when maximum air conditioning performance is required, the system increases the fan speed.
The Tundra’s large, centrally mounted engine radiator is flanked by two smaller radiators for the water-cooled intercooler. Which help feed cold air into the turbocharger intake.
Water jackets for the cylinder heads feature a cooling circuit with cross coolant flow pattern, driven by the largest mechanical water pump of any Toyota vehicle.
10-speed torque converter automatic transmission
Tundra has a 10-speed torque converter automatic transmission. With multi-plate lock-up clutch, providing the driver with smooth and precise gear shifts. Through a wide spread of crossover gear ratios that help make the most of the Tundra’s prodigious powertrain output.
The transmission case uses diecast aluminium construction for high strength and low weight. While a compact, responsive direct solenoid controls each clutch and brake for smooth and direct gear changes.
Along with manual shifting capability and full-range lock-up control, drivers can choose from three drive modes. Eco, Normal and Sport – which adjusts the mapping of the transmission, accelerator, steering and air conditioning systems.
Tundra has a large 122-litre fuel tank.
4WD system
The Tundra puts its power to the ground via a part-time four-wheel drive system with a low-range transfer case for off-road driving.
The part-time system sends drive to the rear wheels in two-wheel drive mode. And features a front automatic disconnecting differential (ADD) with a built-in solenoid actuator. That provides fast shift times when moving from 2H (2WD) to 4H (High-range 4WD).
Tundra is equipped with low-range 4WD (4L). Providing maximum torque and improved traction to tackle tough terrain.
Engineers have added extra protection to the differential connectors. This is to prevent damage from stones and branches when driving on unsealed roads. While they have placed differential breathers higher than 700mm above the ground to promote safe water fording ability.
The transfer case has been developed with strength and durability in mind, with a thick chain and sprockets, and a strong six-pinion planetary gearset.
Towing
Toyota’s most potent powertrain to date supports the Tundra’s maximum braked towing capacity of 4500kg1. With the correct towing equipment fitted. There are two additional towing-focused drive modes which help to provide safe and secure towing performance.
Tow Haul mode integrates control of the engine, transmission, and brakes, making it best suited for towing loads of up to 2200kg. For heavy-duty towing, you can select Tow+ mode to maximize the pulling performance of the i-FORCE MAX powertrain with ultimate stability and controllability.

Tundra Limited TNGA-F ladder-frame architecture
With the heavy demands placed on a vehicle of the Tundra’s size, strength, stability and safety in the platform are essential. And the Tundra shares its TNGA-F ladder-frame architecture with the LandCruiser 300 Series and all-new LandCruiser Prado.
Tundra has lengthened and widened the architecture. With its 3700mm wheelbase being 850mm longer than that of the LandCruiser 300 Series.
The front and rear tracks of 1737mm are also up to 70mm wider than the 300 Series. Providing a strong stable platform that delivers the optimum balance of ride comfort and dynamic handling. And the safety and strength needed for heavy towing.
Engineers have optimised the locations of the nine large platform cross members. And combined with the extensive use of high tensile steel helps to create a frame with a high level of overall torsional rigidity.
A bridge structure for the front cross member provides mounting stability for the steering gear box. And the use of non-linear tailor welded blanks on the inside of the side rails helps to both enhance strength and reduce weight.
Six cabin mount cushions placed around the vehicle frame to help disperse vibrations entering the cabin. Particularly when driving on unpaved or rough roads.
Body strength is provided with the extensive use of ultra-high strength steel in the cabin frame.

Suspension set up
The Tundra features a suspension system designed for heavy-duty usage while still offering premium ride comfort and dynamic handling.
At the front is a double wishbone independent setup. Comprising lightweight and highly rigid components and a geometry designed to deliver high-speed stability and reduced body roll during cornering.
Reduce weight including the use of aluminium forged knuckles, and clamshell-shaped upper and lower arms. Tipple oil seals and dust covers on the twin-tube dampers help to reduce oil leaks and dust ingression, enhancing reliability.
At the rear, the four-link solid axle suspension set-up provides the durability and load-carrying capability expected of a pickup. While occupant comfort is ensured with dual-rate coil springs.
The shock absorbers are placed outside the frame rails for more efficient roll damping and towing performance. With the overall suspension geometry and tuning providing a comfortable and responsive driving experience.
The Tundra uses a rack and pinion electric power steering system to provide easy and precise manoeuvrability. While reducing the amount of unwanted shock and vibration coming up through the road.
As part of its right-hand-drive conversion, the Australian Tundra uses steering gear components taken straight from the LandCruiser 300 Series. Ensuring an OEM level of durability and reliability for the steering column and rack.
Braking capability
Stopping power comes courtesy of an electronically controlled braking system designed to offer a natural and predictable brake feel. Supported by a vehicle stability control unit providing on-demand pressurisation.
In order to deliver anti-fade performance and reduce uneven pad wear, the brake discs feature slotted fins. While the engineers set the caliper cylinders in an offset design, four-piston fixed calipers grab the 354mm x 32mm ventilated discs at the front. They pair the 335mm x 20mm ventilated discs with fixed single-piston calipers at the rear.
Trailer Braking
The integrated trailer brake control system comes standard in Toyota’s most tow-capable vehicle, the Tundra. This works with the vehicle’s active autonomous emergency braking and radar cruise control systems. To provide the safest possible driving environment.
The system offers either automatic or manual trailer brake adjustment. A switch next to the steering wheel can set the latter. You can set the amount of trailer brake control from 0 to 10 in 0.5 step increments. The digital instrument cluster can display the selected setting.
The trailer braking systems support the suite of Toyota Safety Sense2 active safety features. Standard on the Tundra. Starting with the autonomous emergency braking pre collision safety system. That is able to detect vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists during the day.
If there’s a possibility of a collision, the pre-collision safety system issues audible and visual warnings to the driver. And add autonomous braking if the chances of a collision are high or inevitable.
The system is also able to detect oncoming vehicles and pedestrians crossing the road when turning at an intersection.
Emergency steering assist provides steering input to keep the vehicle within its lane if the driver suddenly swerves to avoid an obstacle.
Tundra Limited Cruise Control
The Tundra’s active cruise control system uses a millimetre wave radar and monocular camera sensors to follow preceding vehicles. Even in stop-start traffic.
When moving to overtake a vehicle travelling slower than the Tundra’s set speed. While travelling 80km/h or more, the system activates to begin producing initial acceleration when the driver turns on the turn signal to ensure smooth overtaking.
Likewise, if the Tundra is merging into a lane with a preceding vehicle travelling slower than the cruise control set speed. The system will begin to apply preliminary deceleration when the driver activates the turn signal.
The Tundra’s sophisticated camera and radar system provides accurate lane departure alert and lane trace assist functionality. Steering assist and lane centring, can be switched on and off via a switch on the steering wheel.
When the driver activates the active cruise control system, the system provides small steering inputs. To keep the vehicle centred within its lane. And will offer audible warnings and steering wheel vibrations if the vehicle begins to stray from its lane.
The system designs the automatic high beam to selectively dim the high beams when it detects oncoming and preceding vehicles. And will re-engage the high beams once the vehicle has moved out of the high beams’ line of sight.
Trailer safety features
In addition to its Toyota Safety Sense technologies, the Tundra Limited also features a blind spot monitor. When a trailer is detected, the system extends the trailer warning zone to its maximum length.. And subsequently revise the warning zone to a more accurate trailer length based on one or more turns.
The Tundra also supports parking with a trailer attached, thanks to the trailer backup guide system.
The system is able to autonomously control the steering to reverse a trailer in a straight line. With a touch of a button, you can activate the straight path assist function.
The trailer backup guide can also provide a trailer direction arrow when reversing. And can provide audible and visual warnings if the trailer is at risk of jack-knifing.
An unattached trailer does not hinder the Tundra’s easy parking maneuvers with its suite of cameras and sensors. Including a panoramic view monitor, rear view monitor with guidelines and front/rear parking sensors.
Along with a strong frame designed for excellent crash protection. The Tundra also features a suite of eight SRS airbags to protect occupants in the event of a collision.
Other passive safety features include a tyre pressure monitor system and outboard ISOFIX child restraint points.
