With a sharply re-designed front and rear end and distinct sporting personality, the new BMW 1 Series arrives on local shores with of one of the most significant mid-cycle facelifts in the company’s recent history.

Priced from $36,900* for the entry level BMW 118i, the new range peaks at $62,900* plus on-road costs for its flagship variant, the new BMW M135i.

BMW 135i

BMW Group Australia Chief Executive Officer Marc-Heinrich Werner expressed his excitement at the arrival of the new BMW 1 Series, and its potential in striking a chord with the Australian market.

“The arrival of the new BMW 1 Series marks a homecoming of sorts given the car is the product of an Australian, Calvin Luk,” Werner said.

“The updated model has a more striking road presence, as the changes to the front and rear of the car underline its sporting potential.

Werner added: “The inclusion of a significantly increased list of standard specification adds BMW innovations, including ConnectedDrive Real Time Traffic Information and Rear View Camera, front and centre, and provides a premium ownership experience.

“The new BMW 1 Series will attract attention, and present a compelling option for those looking for compact driving pleasure. It really does deliver impressive value.”

Devised by Australia’s Calvin Luk, a product of the Art Centre College of Design in Pasadena, who fulfilled a long held dream upon his arrival at BMW headquarters in Munich, the new BMW 1 Series delivers on its sporting potential with bolder, more aggressive styling.

The enhancements have extended beyond the peripheral, with the array of styling changes accompanied by an extended list of standard specification.

The result is a new premium compact hatch which presents an attractive value proposition, and is neatly placed to build on the legacy of its predecessors.

A more distinct curb side appeal is achieved through the inclusion of a larger kidney grille and new headlights with dynamic contours, while the new flat geometry of the headlight units and larger air intakes affirm its sporting presence.

BMW 135i

The rear of the car is characterised by familiar ‘L’ shaped taillights in two-piece format, the centrepiece of a sporty, elegant re-styled back half of the vehicle, which also features flared wheel arches and horizontal lines.

Such changes draw attention to the powerful structure and sporting ambitions of the new BMW 1 Series.

BMW 135i

Embracing its premium status, the new BMW 1 Series has received precise interior refinements, with high-quality materials adorning dashboard and console surfaces.

With Rear View Camera and ConnectedDrive Real Time Traffic Information now included as standard, the new BMW 1 Series offers greater substance through-out the entire model line-up.

Sport line is included with the BMW 118i, BMW 118d and BMW 120i, while the BMW 125i now arrives with M Sport package, also as standard.

The arrival of the mid-cycle update also initiates a revision of model designations, resulting in the former BMW 116i becoming the BMW 118i, while the previous BMW 118i has now been rechristened as the BMW 120i.

The new BMW 118d retains its current model designation, and has been realigned in specification with its petrol equivalent.

Among the highlights of the new BMW 1 Series range is the BMW 125i, now equipped with M Sport package, 18-inch light alloy wheels, M Aerodynamics Package, M Sport Suspension, cloth/alcantara upholstery, and M leather steering wheel, further bolstering the dynamic hatch with M Sport Brakes and full LED headlights. .

BMW 135i

The range-topping BMW M135i remains the flagship model for the range, receiving a 5kW power increase, generating 240kW and 450Nm of torque across a broad power band.

Having sold over 560,000 units globally since its initial unveiling in September 2011, the second generation BMW 1 Series has proven a barnstorming success for the brand, driving sales of the model past the two million mark.

The model enjoyed its greatest ever full year sales result in Australia during 2014, delivering over 2,300 units.

The new BMW 1 Series follows on the heels of the recent introduction of the all new BMW X6, the first ever BMW 2 Series Convertible and BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, and the astonishing second generation BMW X5M and X6M.

Its arrival further bolsters a model range designed to deliver choice and flexibility to consumers demanding the traditional prestige and performance of a BMW.

All maintenance requirements for the new BMW 1 Series will be controlled by BMW’s Condition Based Service (CBS) program, which identifies the condition of a vehicle based on actual use, ensuring each BMW is always in first rate running order, and at the same time, minimising costs.

Under the CBS system, sensors and advanced algorithms monitor and calculate the conditions in which the vehicle is used including mileage, time elapsed since the last service, fuel consumption and how the vehicle is driven. The information captured is used to determine the vehicle’s maintenance requirements, identifying that either an annual vehicle inspection or an oil service is due.

In addition, BMW service and selected maintenance costs can now be covered by a single, one-off advance payment with BMW Service Inclusive (BSI).

BSI offers two packages: BMW Service Inclusive Basic provides scheduled servicing cover, while BMW Service Inclusive Plus combines scheduled servicing and selected maintenance items. Based on individual lifestyle needs, a year range and kilometre option is selected, starting from three years/60,000kms.

The BSI plan provides a long-term solution enabling cover to be extended and transferred to future vehicle owners before expiry.
