A ‘Hole in One” could see one lucky golfer drive away in a Volvo S60

If one of the players at this week’s Emirates Australian Open gets a hole in one on the par 3, 7th hole they will win a bright red S60 T6 R-Design valued at more than $75,000.

The competition is part of Volvos partnership with Australia’s most prestigious golf championship, The Emirates Australian Open, will take place at the Lakes Golf Club in Sydney from Thursday this week.

Along with the “hole-in-one” competition Volvo Cars is also hosting the `Volvo Longest Drive’ challenge. Event goers will be able to participate in this unique event throughout the day in an interactive cage. The aim of the challenge is to see who can drive the ball the furthest. A leadership board will be updated throughout the day with the winner to be announced at the end of play each day. Winners of this event will win one of four Volvo S60s –1:43 scale!

Volvo Cars recently signed a three-year agreement with the PGA as the Official Vehicle sponsor.

“Volvo Car Australia has long held a leadership position in automotive safety and now through innovation in design we’re at the forefront of performance. Our alignment with the Australian Open, whose reputation is built on winners from all over the world who are among the finest players in history, is a natural fit as we both share commitment to excellence in everything we do,” said Mr Braid.

“In total we’ll supply 26 courtesy cars for the event from across our range with a focus on one of our newest models, the S60 sedan. The S60 sedan is a genuine competitor in the luxury market. We look forward to working with the PGA over the next three years to revitalise the Australian Open,” Braid said.

“This is wonderful news for the Australian Open. Volvo Car Australia is well known for being one of the world’s premium automotive brands across the globe,” said Stephen Pitt, CEO of Golf Australia.

The event is co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australasia and OneAsia and will be broadcast to over 400 million homes in more than 40 countries.

This year’s tournament is anticipated to be one of the biggest ever, with a first class field of players competing to have their name inscribed on the Stonehaven Cup – alongside golfing greats such as Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, Tom Watson and Peter Thomson.

The 2011 field already includes Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, Adam Scott, Greg Norman, Fred Couples, Jason Day, Bubba Watson and defending champion Geoff Ogilvy.
