The launch of the all-new BMW M2 Coupe offers a new generation of customers access to high performance M brand driving pleasure.
Building upon the success of the limited edition 1 Series M Coupe sold here in 2011, the M2 Coupe carries all the hallmarks that have defined BMW’s M brand – originally established to oversee the company’s racing operations – for over 40 years.
With its purposeful athletic styling, a powerful straight six turbo engine and dynamic handling tuned and tested on Germany’s legendary Nurburgring racetrack, the M2 Coupe continues BMW’s tradition of producing outstanding compact sports cars that stretch back through icons like the E30 M3 to the original BMW 2002 Turbo.
Chief Executive Officer of BMW Group Australia, Marc Werner, said Australians have long embraced BMW’s M cars with enthusiasm and with the launch of the M2 Coupe, high performance driving pleasure was now available to even more customers.
“With prices starting from only $89,900, the two-door M2 Coupe brings a whole world of BMW M race-bred performance, stunning design and dynamic driving characteristics to a new generation of customers,” Mr Werner said.
“Its impressive performance, powerful styling, extensive standard equipment and attractive price point ensures the M2 Coupe sets a new benchmark for compact sports cars offering enormous appeal for driving enthusiasts.”
The BMW M2 Coupe is available in two variants – M2 Pure and M2 – that both feature a powerful 272kW/465Nm 3.0-litre BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engine for immediate and responsive power delivery.
Driving through the rear wheels, the engine in the M2 Pure is mated to a slick shifting six-speed manual gearbox with the M2 fitted with BMW’s seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT) with Drivelogic and Integrated Launch Control function as standard, with the manual gearbox offered as a no-cost option.
This advanced powertrain enables the BMW M2 Coupe to sprint from 0-100km/h in just 4.3 seconds when fitted with the M DCT, or 4.5 seconds with the six-speed manual gearbox, before going on to a limited top speed of 250km/h.
The M2 Coupe not only excels in straight line speed however, and complementing the high performance powertrain is a lightweight M Sport Suspension package (non-adaptive), Driving Experience Control with a bespoke M Dynamic Mode function, electronically-controlled limited slip Active M Differential, M compound brakes and M-tuned Electric Power Steering for superb agility, traction and handling.
Reflecting the car’s sports performance, the design of the BMW M2 Coupe emphasises its athletic agility with its muscular coupe proportions combining a short front overhang, sweeping bonnet, long wheelbase and setback glasshouse.
At the front, the prominent M double-spoke kidney grille neatly integrates with the twin circular bi-Xenon headlights and low-slung front apron, with its large air inlets featuring distinctive trapezoidal blades and BMW Air Curtains. The bold sharp lines of the front end continue across the sculpted bonnet and down the car’s flanks.
Characteristic M quad exhausts and an integrated diffuser element in the rear apron accentuate the car’s low wide stance while the subtle boot-lid spoiler further enhances its sporty aerodynamics.
Maintaining BMW’s trademark driver orientation, the four-seater interior features a number of M design highlights such as black Dakota leather front sports seats with blue contrast stitching, an embossed M logo in the backrest, and adjustable side bolsters.
Further increasing its sporty ambience, the cabin of the M2 Coupe also features carbon fibre trim, leather-wrapped M three-spoke steering wheel with gearshift paddles and M logos on the gearshift and door sills.
As the range-topping model in the 2 Series lineup, the BMW M2 Coupe incorporates an extensive list of standard equipment and BMW ConnectedDrive features for comfort, safety and convenience.
In the M2 Pure, that includes climate control, cruise control with braking function, rear Park Distance Control, Rear View Camera, HiFi sound system with DAB+ digital radio, Navigation system Professional and Driving Assistant features including Lane Departure Warning, and Collision and Pedestrian Warnings with City Braking function.
Added to this, the M2 variant gains Adaptive Headlights, keyless Comfort Access system, Alarm System, electric heated front seats and a Harman/Kardon Surround Sound audio system.
Both BMW M2 Coupe models also feature full Bluetooth connectivity for audio streaming and smartphone functions and with a built-in SIM card, the ConnectedDrive services offer integrated GoPro and M Laptimer apps that can be directly controlled through the car’s iDrive Controller.
BMW ConnectedDrive services also provide access to internet and Concierge Services, BMW TeleServices, Real Time Traffic Information and Intelligent Emergency Call.
All maintenance requirements for the new BMW M2 Coupe range are controlled by the Condition Based Servicing (CBS) system.
With CBS, sensors and advanced algorithms monitor and calculate the conditions in which a vehicle is used, including mileage, time elapsed since its last service, fuel consumption and how a vehicle is driven.
Based on the information captured, maintenance requirements are determined, identifying whether an annual vehicle inspection or oil service is due.
Selected BMW service and maintenance costs can be covered by a single, one-off advance payment with BMW Service Inclusive (BSI), which is available in two packages: Basic or Plus.
