The new Audi RS 5 has arrived in Australia and is sharper in almost every way: design, performance, dynamics and pricing. Available from $161,400, the new RS 5 is optionally available with two special dynamic packages so that the true performance potential of this exclusive vehicle can be realised.
The Audi RS 5 Coupé is an elite athlete. Its 4.2 FSI engine, a high-revving, normally aspirated V8, produces 331 kW at 8,250 rpm, with the peak torque of 430 Nm available between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm. It consumes an average of just 10.5 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres (down 0.3l/100km) – far less than its key competitors.
The 7-speed S-tronic gearbox responds to the driver’s inputs faster than ever, and accordingly, the new RS 5 now reaches 100km/h from rest in a blistering 4.5 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h, but can be raised to 280km/h on request.
The new electromechanical power steering setup has carefully tuned by quattro GmbH engineers to offer instant response and incredible cornering performance. In addition to its added precision, the new system helps to deliver reduced fuel consumption.
To allow drivers to extract the maximum from the new RS 5, there are two special Dynamic Sports packages being offered. Both include Sports Suspension Plus with Dynamic Ride Control, the muscular Sports Exhaust system with blackened tail pipe trims and a choice of 20-inch alloy wheels styles: the contemporary ‘Rotor’ design aluminium or titanium look.
Visually, the Audi RS 5 Coupé now has an even more athletic and muscular road stance. The upper corners of the single-frame grille are beveled, and sharper edges lend the hood an even more sculpted appearance. The most striking elements at the front of the car, however, are the new, wedge-shaped headlights. Utilising xenon plus technology, they include narrow LED strips for the daytime running lights. The taillights and the rear bumper have also been redesigned.
Two new Audi exclusive packages are also now available to RS 5 buyers, with Valcona leather coming with a choice of diamond quilting ($14,990) and contrasting red leather (from $9,400) elements to provide an even more exclusive appearance. A flat-bottomed steering wheel now comes standard on the RS 5, while MMI Navigation functionality has also been improved.
“In the two short years since it arrived in Australia, the Audi RS 5 Coupe has generated a huge amount of interest among enthusiasts. The combination of a powerful, high-revving V8 engine, fast-shifting S tronic dual-clutch transmission and quattro all-wheel drive makes the RS 5 a formidable buying proposition. Early interest in the new model has been even stronger than we anticipated and we look forward to continuing that trend,” said Audi Australia’s Managing Director, Uwe Hagen.
The Audi A5 Coupe, Sportback and Cabriolet range was comprehensively updated in May and the new RS 5 Coupe completes the line-up in Australia.
