Sales results YTD July 2022 – In terms of new car sales July was a steady as she goes month, with some 300 more sales this year compared to last year.
But demand remains strong and many manufacturers have a healthy order book. Wait times for some cars now extends beyond 12 months. Manufacturers simply cannot get enough cars to sell.

The trend for SUVs continues with some 53% of new car sales now falling into that category. A further 24% are LCV and passenger cars are well and truly lagging.
Out of the top ten selling vehicles 4 were Utes with the HiLux taking top spot. Five were SUVs and the remaining one a passenger car the Corolla.
Despite all the hype about electric cars, petrol cars are still the dominant sales fuel, followed by diesel. Electric cars and PHEV cars are about even together representing some 1.5% of total sales for July. Hybrid cars fare better with some 8.5% of sales in July.
Toyota retains top spot with more than twice as many sales as number two Mazda. Mitsubishi, Kia and Hyundai make up the top five with Ford, MG, Isuzu Ute, Subaru and Nissan the top ten.
Note that Ford sales are almost 90% Ranger and Everest.

The FCAI, the peak body for Australia’s automotive industry, has today released new vehicle sales figures for July 2022.
A total of 84,461 vehicles were sold in July bringing the year-to-date total to 622,319. This result represents a 0.4 per cent increase on the same month in 2021.
FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber said the relatively flat result compared to this time last year has shown the market has not normalised since the beginning of the pandemic.
“Vehicle and component manufacturing operations remain affected by plant shutdowns caused by Covid-19. Logistics, including shipping, remain unpredictable. While small growth on the same month in 2021 is encouraging, we do not expect the supply of vehicles to Australia to stabilise in the near future.
“Once again Australia is following the global trend of demand for new vehicles exceeding supply,” Mr Weber said.
Sales in South Australia increased by 13.3 per cent with 5,649 vehicles sold. Sales were also up in New South Wales by 10.9 per cent with 26,519 vehicles sold. All other States and Territories recorded declines in sales. The ACT down 16.4 per cent (1,175); the Northern Territory down 16.6 per cent (756); Queensland down 1.1 per cent (18,900); Tasmania down 13.2 per cent (1,327); Victoria down 5.8 per cent (22,076); and Western Australia down 9.0 per cent (8,059).
Toyota led the market with a total of 19,565 vehicles sold. Mazda was next with 7,879 followed by Hyundai (6,792), Kia (6,711) and Mitsubishi (5,611).
The Toyota Hi-Lux was the highest selling model with 6,441 sales reported. The Ford Ranger followed with 2,934. Toyota’s RAV4 was next with 2,437 followed by Mazda’s CX-5 (2,346) and Hyundai’s Tucson (2,186).

- The July 2022 market of 84,461 new vehicle sales is an increase of 300 vehicle sales or 0.4% against July 2021 (84,161). There were 26 selling days in July 2022 compared to 27 in July 2021, resulting in an increase of 131.4 vehicle sales per day.

July 2021. - Toyota was market leader in July, followed by Mazda and Hyundai. Toyota led Mazda with a margin of 11,686 vehicle sales and 13.9 market share points.
