Clever Hyundai i40 Sedan and i40 Tourer

Hyundai Motor Company Australia has announced the introduction of advanced safety technologies to the ‘Premium’ i40 sedan and i40 Tourer models. Both Smart Parking Assist and Lane Departure Warning & Assist are now standard features, bring cutting-edge technologies to Hyundai’s flagship passenger car.

Smart Parking Assist System
Smart Parking Assist provides the driver with a semi-automated reverse parallel parking function, offering guidance to maneuver the vehicle into tight or difficult parking spots.

The system can be activated at speeds of up to 30km/h and utilizes side-mounted ultrasonic sensors. Once a parking position has been selected the system prompts the driver to engage reverse gear and commences operation. The driver operates the accelerator and brake functions while monitoring the movements in the reverse camera via the in-dash monitor, and the system applies steering inputs to guide the vehicle into place. Should the space be ‘too tight’ for a single motion movement, the system will prompt the driver to engage forward and reverse gears appropriately to complete the process.

Lane Departure Warning & Assist System
Lane Departure Warning and Assist can be engaged at speeds over 60km/h, and actively monitors the lane markings through a windshield-mounted front camera. Should the system detect the vehicle leaving the marked lane without engaging the indicators, an audible warning is sounded to alert the driver and a visual warning is displayed on the centre TFT LCD display.

Further supporting the audible/visual warnings, the switchable Lane Keeping Assist function actively assists the driver, steering in the correct direction when the system detects that the vehicle is about to leave the marked lane. The system will only function when the steering wheel is being held by the driver. Both systems can be disabled at any time, and any steering assistance can be manually overridden by the driver.

All i40 Premium models now come as standard with a ten-sensor front and rear parking system, an increase from the standard eight-sensor system on Active and Elite models, to further enhance safety and provide additional driver parking convenience.

Adding a final touch of ‘premium’ enhancement is the introduction of a 4.2” colour TFT LCD Supervision Cluster which clearly displays Lane Departure Warning & Assist and the Smart Park Assist information and prompts.

As with all Hyundai vehicles safety technology is paramount. The i40 range achieves a 5-star ANCAP rating with standard features including; nine airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) incorporating EBD and BAS, Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS), Emergency Stop System (ESS), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), steering wheel mounted speed limiter, Electric Park Brake (EPB), and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC).

Designed and engineered at the company’s European research and development centre in Russelsheim, Germany, the i40 truly represents Hyundai’s commitment to delivering cars which offer the most progressive occupant safety technologies, and confirms the i40 model as Hyundai’s flagship passenger car.

The updated i40 Premium range will go on sale locally in March, with a small increase in MLP of $1,000.
