How to Ensure That Your Ferrari Performs at Its Optimal Level

Ferrari-458-Speciale-

Owning a supercar is somewhat of a dream for many people, and realistically it’s something that not many of us will have in our lifetimes. That’s ok though, being realistic is important in life and there are so many things you need to do with supercars to ensure they’re up to scratch that it could end up costing you more than you expected.

They are an investment, to begin with, and can have you shelling out millions, and then you have other costs like insurance. One thing for sure is that if you want to be able to drive your car to its full potential you’ll have to take care of it, here in the following article we take a look at some of the things you will need to do to ensure your Ferrari is performing at its optimal level.

Servicing

Let’s start with what most of you will hopefully already know. We have to service our cars whether they are a supercar or not, and we have to do so every year to ensure they are safe to drive. Think of it as a yearly checkup from your doctor. If you have a Ferrari then it’s best to go somewhere that understands your car, somewhere that’s going to treat it with the love and affection it deserves. It’s an expensive car and deserves the best. The professionals at Cavallino Motorsport state that there is no substitute for experience and knowledge as it’s impossible to discuss originality without knowing what the car should look like in the first place. Having someone that knows your car better than you will ensure that it’s being serviced properly and will perform beautifully.

Tyres

When it comes to tires on a car like your Ferrari it’s safe to say that they are going to be a little more specialized than the ones you find on a ford fiesta. They tend to be wider and chunkier to enable the car to have more grip. You should change your tires when they are considered unsafe which is when they have been worn down to 2/32 of an inch. But with the amount of power behind the wheel, I wouldn’t allow it to get to that point. Check your tires every time you go out and ensure there’s nothing wrong with them.

Fuel

Using cheap fuel isn’t going to cut it, you have to use fuel that is designed for a high-performance engine. Check at your local petrol stations to see what they have to offer, just because it’s cheaper doesn’t mean it’s any good.

Fuel Filter

Fuel is the juice that keeps the car running so ensuring it’s not allergic to it is pretty important. The fuel filter essentially keeps fuel running smoothly to the engine without any foreign bodies in it. It’s critical these days as fuel injectors have close-fitting parts that are easily clogged up by first and grit. When the fuel has been filtered correctly, it creates a fine spray that completely burns, however, when it’s not pure it starts to produce steam that doesn’t completely ignite. The simple way to fix this is by ensuring your fuel filter is clean and changing it every 2 years, or every 30 00 miles as standard. You might want to lower that number if you are worried at all.

Air Filter

The air filter on your Ferrari prevents harmful debris, dirt, and contaminants from entering your engine and when it’s an engine that costs as much as it does, it’s best we keep on top of it. Change it every year to ensure it’s going to be doing its job properly. It’s relatively inexpensive, especially compared to the cost it would be if you were to have real engine problems.

Check Your Oil

It’s recommended that all motorists check their motor oil regularly and it should be a little more regular when it comes to owning a horse like a Ferarri. Oil helps reduce the friction within the engine, therefore reducing the heat which can cause substantial damage to critical parts. The oil will take the majority of the heat away. Not only this, but it also helps with fuel economy and prevents erosion in the engine bay. Check your oil either every time or every other time you go out in your Ferarri and if it’s too low then top it up and if it’s looking a little dark it’s best to get it changed.

Coolant

You should flush your coolant system every 5 years as a motorist that looks after their car, I would get advice from a Ferrari specialist to see if this is any different but it’s an important aspect of your car. Coolant is a mixture of distilled water and ethylene glycol, it essentially absorbs extreme heat generated from the engine. It seems pretty important in a car that runs as quickly as a Ferrari!

Keep It Clean

One thing I have to say about owning a Ferrari is that you have to keep it clean. When do you ever see a supercar driving down the road and think to yourself… “Hmm, that needs a clean!”? You don’t, and that’s because people take great pride in their cars, and so should you. It might cost you a little more on car washes every month but it’s an unwritten rule amongst the community.

Something To Be Said

Something I want to add on at the end of this article is to trust your instincts. This is your car and if you feel as though something isn’t quite right with it, or something feels off, then trust your gut and take it in to see a specialist. It’s not worth risking anything when it comes to these cars. You know how it drives and if the wind distribution feels funny or it has a slight pull to the left, albeit a tiny one, get it checked out.

A Ferrari is a beautiful creature and one that deserves to be on the road. And to keep it on the road means we have to be careful when looking after it. Look after it with love and passion, the only two words you need when talking about something so magnificent.
