Regular listeners will know of my aversion to electric cars. So when I say I liked the Hyundai Kona Electric, they might be surprised.

Apart from looking a little plastic inside, the Highlander was fitted with a load of luxury and safety features and was very comfortable to sit in.

With a real range around 400km plus and a relatively quick and easy plug in anywhere recharge, the Kona is ideally suited to city dwellers that may occasionally want a slightly extended trip away. It also has excellent braking regenerative charging.

Surprisingly quick in sport mode, the electric motor produces a near-instantaneous 395Nm of torque. It was smooth and relaxed to drive

To my mind there is still a long way to go to make electric cars a vehicle of choice for anyone but inner-city dwellers. At around $60,000 plus the usual costs it isn’t cheap, even though it is fully equipped.
