With a stylish exterior that is appealing to many buyers judging by the number of people that stopped me to ask about it.
Inside it’s a little smaller than others like the Sorento or Santa Fe but as five seat model it works a treat. The large central screen is tilted towards the driver, there are little luxury touches everywhere and the leather heated and cooled front seats are particularly comfortable. The driver even has a massage function.
The rear seats have plenty of leg room and the boot is quite large.
The petrol 2.5L engine gives zippy performance and good economy and matches well to the 8 speed automatic transmission and AWD capability. This isn’t an off road tourer, think more that the AWD is an added safety feature.
In a crowded market the Outlander provides buyers a value based alternative with style.

Mitsubishi Outlander 2022 model updates
Mitsubishi’s all-new flagship boasts a newly developed platform and powertrain, bold and distinctive exterior styling and a refined and serene interior with high-end finishes and thoughtful engineering touches throughout. Outlander also features more standard driver connectivity and driver assistance features and a re-engineered, upgraded version of the brand’s signature Super All-wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel drive system.
Bold exterior and refined, high-end interior
The 2022 Outlander was crafted under the design language of “I-Fu-Do-Do”, which means “authentic and majestic” in Japanese. This design ethos is reflected in the vehicle’s bold proportions, muscular fenders and the chiselled lines of the next-generation “Dynamic Shield” grille. Standard 18-inch or 20-inch wheels, depending on the model, add a robust presence that emphasizes strength and security.
Inside, Outlander offers third-row seating as standard in all models LS and above, and places a premium on comfort and convenience with class-above materials in every trim.
Technology and connectivity
All 2022 Outlanders offer more technology and connectivity than any previous Mitsubishi model, with Apple CarPlay®2 (wireless is now standard) and Android AutoTM (wired) integration standard. Wireless smartphone charging is standard on LS models and above. A 9-inch infotainment centre touchscreen is standard on all models. ES and LS models also have 7-inch colour multi-information display in the instrument cluster, with 12.3-inch full colour digital instrument cluster – a first for Mitsubishi Motors – standard on ASPIRE and above. A 10-speaker BOSE® premium audio system is also standard on EXCEED models. Additionally, a 10.8-inch full-colour windscreen projection head-up display (HUD) is standard on ASPIRE models and above.
Capability and confidence
The 2022 Outlander rides on a next-generation platform developed through its partnership in the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. The newly engineered platform offers a stable foundation for a more confident and comfortable driving experience. With hot stamped ultra-high tensile-strength steel used in key areas, torsional rigidity is increased by 33% over the previous model. Other strength optimisation and mass reduction strategies include the extensive use of aluminium components.
Powering the all-new Outlander is a newly developed 2.5-litre, four-cylinder gasoline engine mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with paddle shift enabled Sport mode to access 8 preset gear ratios. Additionally, a new ‘drive by wire’ transmission shifter combined with new CVT control logic, delivers a more direct shift operation and a more ‘natural’ Automatic Transmission-like feeling under large throttle inputs, while retaining the smooth cruising and efficiency benefits of the CVT.
Mitsubishi’s motorsport-derived Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) all-wheel drive system provides drivers with six drive modes that will adjust the electronically-controlled 4WD system to best suit the road surface/conditions. This allows drivers to feel more confident in all driving situations.
The re-engineered S-AWC system includes enhanced Active Yaw Control, now including rear wheel brake control for independent control of all four wheels, and the evolution of 4WD control with a new hydraulically activated direct coupling device for faster all-wheel response. Mitsubishi’s unique tuning of the system draws on many decades of advanced 4WD systems development to provide greater driving confidence with predictable dynamic behaviours.
