Peugeot 3008 GT Sport 2022 Review

3008 GT Sport – I recently drove the Peugeot 3008 GT Sport, an urban styled SUV that brings French flair and style to the segment.  2022 Peugeot 3008 GT Sport driving The first thing I noticed was just how good the 3008 looked. It has flowing lines with presence. I actually got stopped a number of times by people that wanted to have a look and commented on its appeal.

Secondly the interior was so comfortable with deep contoured heated Nappa leather seats with massage function for the driver. Let me tell you if I’m driving the massage is going.

In front of the driver is the functional but unusual Peugeot digital i-Cockpit® which essentially is a full HUD in a 12.3-inch instrument panel. Unlike most vehicles the small sport steering wheel sits lower than the instruments and once you get used to it, you can appreciate the benefits.

There is also a 1o inch central touch screen underscored by seven elegant piano ‘toggle switches’ giving direct access to the car’s main control functions, including the audio system, navigation, climate controls and vehicle settings.

It is powered by a 1.6-litre PureTech 4 cylinder petrol engine that develops 133kW and 250Nm. It drives the front wheels through an 8 Sp AT. Around town its zippy enough and on the freeway it cruises with ease. Its also fairly frugal as well and I got around 6.5L/100 on the weeks drive.

Peugeot 3008 GT Sport is priced from around $63,500 plus the usual costs and offers something just a little different from the somewhat bland BMW X2 or Mercedes Benz GLA.

More 3008GT Sport thoughts

The 3008 GT Sport site in an unusual segment, competing directly against the likes of Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Volvo etc, as a medium sized SUV.

It comes with a heap of French flair in the design, internal layout and that distinctly European Autobahn cruising ability.

What is the 3008GT Sport exterior like?

There is no mistaking the 3008GT Sport, It has a distinctive style that appeals to a broad range of people. I often judge the design by the number of people that comment to me and plenty stopped to say how much they liked the look.

From all angles it has style oozing from every panel.

From the front its frameless vertical grill, topped with auto high beam LED headlights. They are adaptive and have static directional functionality. Below them are the fang style LED DRLs that include the fog lights.

Profile shows muscular wheel arches framing the stylish alloys. The rear has the distinctive LED three claw style lighting and directional indicators. Twin exhausts also add to the style.

Black Pack – Front grille, front and rear badging, front and rear ‘PEUGEOT’ lettering, rear bumper strip, lower bumper trim, side door trim, front wing trims, window surrounds in black / dark chrome / satin black

There is also a panoramic opening glass roof (with satin black electric interior blind and blue ambient lighting in blind)

So that’s a big tick in the style department.

What about inside the Peugeot 3008 GT Sport like?

Comfortable and elegant are the first two words that come to mind.

The diamond quilted heated Nappa leather seats have deep support sculptures on the squab and back. The seats themselves are well cushioned and supportive for long trips. Add to that electronic adjustment (including lumbar) for the driver and a massage function as well. Yes please!

In front of the driver is a sports steering wheel with thick thumb supports, that sits lower than  normal. This allows excellent visibility to the next-generation digital i-Cockpit® technology. This is essentially a 12.3-inch digital head-up instrument panel that produces a higher contrast to improve visibility.

Its unusual but it works a treat.

The central stack is topped with a 10-inch, high-definition, capacitive colour touchscreen for increased functionality.

Below this there is a row of seven elegant piano ‘toggle switches’ giving direct access to the car’s main control functions, including the audio system, navigation, climate controls and vehicle settings.

I love the “lime wood” fascia and door trims.

Full connectivity is assured for 3008 GT Sport with Apple CarPlay™, Android Auto and MirrorScreen standard. For the audiophiles these is a 515-watt, 10-speaker FOCAL® premium audio system available.

Rear seats are again very comfortable with a recline ability. More for two rather than three, there is adequate leg room (behind normal sized drivers), but head room is a little affected by the panoramic sun roof.

Boot space is voluminous (with two level availability) and the rear seats fold flat as well as the front passenger seat for maximum flexibility.

Little luxuries like auto dipping rear external mirrors in reverse, split top central arm rest and storage console, rear A/C controls and USB ports and 360 degree camera all add to the premium feel.

3008 GT Sport engine and drivetrain

Powered by the 1.6-litre PureTech 180 four-cylinder turbo petrol engine. This delivers power of 133kW @ 5500rpm and torque of 250Nm @ 1650rpm.

3008 GT Sport is a front wheel drive with an EAT8 eight-speed automatic transmission. In a world full of DSG transmissions is nice to drive a true AT again.

The engine meets EURO 6.3 emissions standards and comes with stop & start system, multi-point direct fuel-injection and variable valve timing (inlet valves).

There is a three driver mode select function with Eco, Normal and Sport.

Suspension at the front is Independent – Pseudo-MacPherson axle, coil springs and integrated and pressurised hydraulic shock absorbers. At the rear is Semi-independent wheels – Twist beam axle, hydraulic and pressurised shock absorbers.

Brakes are ventilated disc brakes with sliding caliper and automatic wear adjustments at the front and Sliding calliper disc brakes at the rear.

What is the 3008 GT Sport like to drive?

Around town its zippy rather than fast. The engine has a nice little raspy note that is pleasant. Suspension soaks up most of the bumps and potholes in our horrible suburban streets.

On the freeway the Pug comes into its own. The combination of engine, transmission and Peugeot suspension means the 3008 simply glides along with ease.

Its quiet, smooth, responsive to both steering and throttle inputs and has a bit of a buzz about it. Its definitely not a sports SUV but driver engagement is evident and enough to provide an element of fun.

I really like the lower setting of the sports steering wheel, which is a flat top and bottom design and adds to the sporty nature.

The other attribute that adds to the relaxed driving style is the peak torque at just 1650rpm. This aids both responsiveness and economy.

Visibility is generally pretty good, but the angle of the “A” pillars combined with the positioning of the external mirrors does provide a small blind spot that almost meant I missed a pedestrian on a crossing. Its something  that you adjust your driving style to quickly.

Peugeot 3008 GT Sport Safety

Featuring a five star ANCAP safety rating the 3008 highlights include:

Peugeot Owner benefits.

The Pug comes with a 5 year unlimited kilometres warranty along with 5 year conditional roadside assistance.

Peugeot also has its own finance arm that has a clever inbuilt feature of guaranteed future value for the vehicle. For owners worrying about resale value that assuages their fear. They also just released fixed price service packages at a substantial discount to pay as you go pricing.

Peugeot 3008 GT Sport final thoughts

It should be no secret that I am a big fan of the 3008 GT Sport.

It looks great, is particularly comfortable inside, rides and handles beautifully for a SUV and is zippy to drive around town and cruises effortlessly on the freeway. And its super economical as well. Important in these days of exorbitant fuel prices.

Combine that with the inbuilt French flair and you have an European premium brand vehicle at a saving of thousands against the more typical European brands.

Its for those buyers that want something just a little different!
