Peugeot Expert Premium long wheel base Van 2022 review

Expert Premium – Peugeot Expert is ideally suited as a work van coming with a high specification level and two wheelbase variants.

MY22 Peugeot Expert Premium (LWB)

I just spent a week in the long wheel base Premium version, and I have to say I’m pretty impressed.

Its actually quite stylish, especially in the dark grey colour we had. With a bold grill and clever design it manages to avoid the slab sided van look. A host of body coloured appointments and 17 inch silver alloy wheels add to the style.

Expert Premium is powered by a 2.0L 4 Cyl turbo diesel engine with 110kW and 370Nm driving the front wheels through an 8 speed AT.

2022 Peugeot Expert Premium (LWB) load of pavers

However figures don’t always tell the full story. I loaded nearly 900kg into the van and the willing engine hardly noticed it. Payload is around 1300kg with a 2100kg tow capacity.

On the freeway it cruised along with ease and around town it was willing and zippy.

The Expert Premium has class leading ride and handling with on road dynamics more like a SUV than a delivery van. A load helps that as well, softening the rear suspension bounce when empty.

Inside its comfortable, and while I could do with a little more leg room its relaxing to drive. I found the window sill the perfect size and height for an elbow rest. The central screen is a touch small but does have smart phone connectivity.

Peugeot Expert Premium LWB is priced from $53,265 plus the usual costs.

Additional Peugeot Expert Premium Thoughts

  • As far as vans go this is perhaps the most stylish on the market
  • Premium version with grey colour and alloys takes away from the slab sided ‘whitegoods’ image of delivery vans
  • While the engine power and torque doesn’t read all that powerful, the actual daily driving is different. It never felt wanting.
  • The 130kW/400Nm engine should be an option on all vans
  • Expert drives more like a SUV than a van.
  • Its comfortable inside but I really would like a touch more leg room, it would make a huge difference to taller drivers and almost none to the cargo capacity. The Peugeot isn’t alone in this, most vans are the same.
  • As mentioned the height of the window sill and width makes a perfect arm rest while driving
  • Forward visibility is excellent.
  • Over the shoulder is restricted by the “B” pillar but the external rear mirrors more than compensate.
  • Please a call out to all commercial vehicle manufacturers, Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If any vehicle needs this its workers vehicles.
  • There isn’t really many good places to put the phone. I ended up holding it under the elastic strap on the fold down central arm rest.
  • Headlights and high beam are excellent. Window washer likewise.
  • Two large side doors and rear barn doors are incredibly practical
  • There are practical tie down points, however the heavy duty rubber mat covers them.
  • The benefit of the mat is that you can take it out and clean it
  • The rear is wide enough to take a pallet between the wheel arches and hold up to three pallets.

Peugeot Expert 2022 update details

The MY22 Expert family sees significant changes with a revised range making each variant a distinct value proposition.

Both Short and Long variants, at 4.95m and 5.30m overall length respectively, are designed for the core of the light-commercial-vehicle market while the 1.94m roof height guarantees Expert access to all car parks.

Model Walk

Expert City Short

The range starts with the City Short variant, an economical, no-frills alternative to other entry level, mid-size vans. Aimed mainly at owner-drivers and small to medium businesses, it packs a powerful punch with its economical Euro5-compliant 2.0 litre, four-cylinder turbo diesel delivering 110kW of power and 370Nm of torque, all delivered through a six-speed manual transmission.

Expert Pro Long

Using the same engine and transmission as City Short, new Expert Pro Long is the next step up, providing more space to increase owner-driver and owner-operator appeal and make it ideal for couriers and regional buyers who need a larger van but don’t need automatic transmission.

Pro will suit anyone looking for a highly functional ‘fit for purpose’ van offering strong levels of safety. Aimed at both fleet buyers and tool-of-trade owner-drivers (mostly in the building trades), it will be available in Short and Long variants with the hydraulic eight-speed automatic and new Long with six-speed manual transmission.

Practical features include dual side sliding doors, glazed 180-degree swinging rear doors, three front seats and up to 1.4-tonnes cargo capacity. The Expert Pro safety features extend to Autonomous Emergency Braking, Forward Collision and Blindspot Warning, reversing camera and rear parking sensors.

MY22 Peugeot Expert Premium (LWB)

Expert Premium

As you might expect, Expert Premium is designed to appeal to owner-drivers looking for a dual-purpose vehicle, or tool-of-trade buyers who want a more car-like van, a dual-purpose carryall blending workhorse practicality with levels of style and comfort not usually found in a working class van.

This van brings a new level of style to the segment by adding 17-inch diameter silver alloy wheels, body-coloured front and rear bumpers, side mirrors, door handles, side mouldings and sliding door rails, LED daytime running lamps, front fog lamps and, inside, the ‘Moduwork’ mobile office pack that includes a generous under-seat storage space and glazed cabin divider.

Expert Sport LE

Expert Sport LE is a limited edition that stands as a perfect and practical alternative to a dual-cab utility vehicle. Not only does it have more space with greater security, but it is also cheaper to buy and run.

Built using the Short body, it stands apart visually courtesy of its unique ‘Sport’ decals, black 17-inch alloy wheels and Xenon headlamps while driving appeal is heightened by a head-up display, automatic air-conditioning, front parking sensors, keyless entry and push-button start.

A high output, Euro6-compliant version of the 2.0 litre turbo diesel delivers 130kW and 400Nm, sent to the road through the smooth and responsive eight-speed automatic which, for this particular model, features a steering column-mounted paddle shift for snap gear changes.
